Black Dog is not only the name of our flavourful, unfiltered Irish style porter, but also refers to our trusted protector – Zach. He’s in charge of security related matters around the brewery. So when he’s not sleeping with one eye open, he’s known to brave his day-to-day duties while puffing away on a pipe.
Even though the muse from down-under behind this Crispy Pils is blind, it’s easy to see why it’s such a crowd pleaser. As our confident and courageous entertainer will attest, it’s good to keep things light. Perfect for those long lazy summer days, this refreshing Lager brewed with the revered Saaz Hop reveals fresh tropical flavours and a well balanced bitterness that hit all the right notes.
A soft, smooth IPA showcasing South African hops with flavours of stone fruit and pine.

A TRADITIONAL AUSTRIAN LAGER WITH A ZESTY TWIST LIKE A PALE ALE. THIS AUSTRIAN LAGER IS LOVED ALL OVER THE WORLD EVEN AS FAR AS MEXICO. WE BROUGHT OUR OWN LOCAL SOUTH AFRICAN TOUCH TO THIS ALE. THE SCENERY ON THE LABEL IS THE ACTUAL VIEW SEEN FROM KLIPBOKKOP AND FROM THE BREWHOUSE PUB. THE BEER SHOWED IT’S CLASS IN 2016 BY WINNING A GOLD MEDAL IN THE SANBT AWARDS, AND TAKING HOME THE “BEST AMBER IN SHOW” AWARD.
Did you hear the one about the two owls who walked into a tasting room? Well, it’s a long story best enjoyed with this brown ale in hand. Because if our two feathery local patrons have taught us anything, it’s that you shouldn’t watch the clock when appreciating the good things in life.
At Wild Clover Brewery, we take great care in hand crafting our beer to perfection. A type of excellence perfectly embodied in our eagle-eyed brew master. It’s only with his great vision, focus and dedication that we could create something as special as this Fruity Wit.
An old world Belgian Farmhouse ale, fermented in french oak and featuring flavours of spiced pear, citrus, and pineapple that finishes with a hint of fynbos.
Pale Lager with a hint of Fynbos Honey
THIS LAGER IS PRIMED WITH NATURAL UNFILTERED FYNBOS HONEY, GIVING IT A GENTLE HONEY AROMA AND CREAMY HEAD. LAAGERED FOR 3 MONTHS TO A CRISP. IF YOU’RE NEW TO CRAFT BEER THIS CAN QUICKLY BECOME A FAVOURITE. EVERY SOUTH AFRICAN KNOWS WHERE THE LOADSHED NAME COMES FROM, BUT IT’S ALSO ABOUT RELAXING AFTER A STRESSFUL DAY AND NOT TO LOSE OUR SENSE OF HUMOUR. OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS THE BEER HAS BEEN AWARDED TWO SILVER MEDALS, SHOWING THAT IT HAS A CONSISTENT QUALITY.
A lively, dry Belgian-style Pale Ale with notes of citrus and mango.
A BEAUTIFULLY BALANCED IPA
This IPA is by far a maltier IPA than the East Coast IPA, with an outstanding balance of hoppiness with an older edition of hop to capture these flavours, so what you smell is what you taste. Templar has been a long time in the making, and this was rewarded in both the 2017 and 2018 SANBT awards. Best drunk slightly chilled but not cold.
As adaptable as the Impala, we are confident that this refreshingly fruity Ale will fit any beer lover’s daily routine.
As sly as the Jackal, this crafty IPA satisfies from the first sip. Not for the faint hearted.
As majestic as the kudu, this lager proves why it's the leading beer style for the discerning South African market.
As distinctive as the Oryx walking the dry, hot Karoo, this fruity Weiss is a refreshing take on a beloved classic.
Lily Patrick Blonde Ale is our answer to the traditional lager, only it’s not a lager; it’s an ale. It has moderate bitterness and maltiness with medium carbonation and a combination of South African and German hops.
Aroma profile: Slight citrus, fruity and herbal.
Gruit is one of the old beer styles that use herbs instead of hops for bittering and flavour. Our latest beer to incorporate local fynbos derives its bitterness mostly from African Wormwood. The aroma is malty with a unique herbal fruitiness. The ruby red colour is mostly derived from crystal malts imparting caramel and dried fruit flavours. Ancient One is an exceptionally refreshing beer, changing what you’d expect from a dark red ale, and can be enjoyed year round.
Bonito is a spiced variation on our popular Sweetlips blonde. Buchu, an endemic South African herb used in many traditional remedies, imparts unique mint, black currant and orange aromas that are very obvious on the nose and lingers in the finish. The beer is lightly dry and refreshing and is available as a summer seasonal regular.
This is our entry level sessional ale. Specially crafted from our locally sourced Overberg barley, this ale is straw colored, with a malt profile reminiscent of freshly baked bread. The bitterness and aroma are from American hops, grown along the rivers of Oregon State. Enjoy, my friend, and when you are finished, have another!
Empowered Stout is a complex full bodied English sweet stout. This beer gets its malty complexity and colour from a combination of five different malts and two hop varieties. Coffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit, raisins and liquorice in the aroma with detectable sweetness balanced by the bitterness derived from the hops and roasted malts. This beer is best enjoyed at around 11°C and pairs well with meat dishes or dark chocolate.
Typical English ale but varying between brews as we enjoy the latitude allowed in the style. Englishman always sports caramel malt and floral hop aromas with medium to high bitterness. This easy drinking session beer can be enjoyed ice-cold or up to 14C if you like warmer beers.
This ale is mostly about the hops. India Pale Ale was specially brewed in England to be shipped over to those working in India in the 1700’s. Hops (a known preservative) were added in abundance to cover the long sea journey. On top of a substantial malt backbone, we have added a rich mixture of hops from Germany,
the USA and from South Africa.
Hammerhead, the first bottled IPA in South Africa, is a well-balanced IPA with a distinct hop character that imparts mild citrus and pine aromas and significant bitterness, balanced with a solid malt backbone. It is continually hopped like Dogfish Head’s IPA’s which establishes a deep seated solid hop character in all aspects of this beer. Toffee and caramel are characteristic of the malts used in Hammerhead. The working name on this beer was Hammer(ed) (Hop)Head and probably describes it well.
Our latest beer was created after collaborating with the well known Ramen restaurant, Three Wise Monkeys in 2017. At the time, there was no locally brewed rice beer in the South African craft scene. This is in spite of rice being an ingredient in the world’s most popular beers (not naming any names my bud!). Our main ingredient, pure Overberg spring water, is a given. We have replaced 10% of our malt bill with rice. African Queen is our bittering hop whilst Williamette is our aromatic hop, added late to the boil. The resulting beer is light, dry and very refreshing. But full of flavour! So, go ahead my china, have another!
Ocean Potion is our flagship beer. It is a classic American Pale Ale that pours pure gold with a solid lasting head that settles beautifully. Its trademark is the huge tropical fruit and citrusy aroma. This hoppy component is underpinned by a solid yet complex malt base. The first surprise is that this beer, after the aroma is all beer. Its light bodied and finishes surprisingly bitter. Ocean Potion pairs well with aromatic dishes like Boboti, Thai and Indian curries.
Picasso is a refreshing light beer with a hint of spicy hop and a lingering bitter finish. Named after the Picasso Triggerfish it’s slightly off the wall as a lager style brewed with our hybridised “Trigger Happy Yeast” this beer ferments out completely and surprises committed pils drinkers.
This thirst quenching, dry ale was made by Belgian farmers during winter. Later on, in the peak of summer, the beer was served to tired and thirsty seasonal “Saison” workers who had been out harvesting all day. Spicy notes with a subtle orange, citrus flavour.
Roman Red is a beautifully balanced, medium-bodied amber ale. It pours a clear African Sunset red with a dense off-white head. The citrus and pine resin hop aroma typically associated with Pacific North Western hop varieties strikes a balance with caramel, raisins and a hint of smokiness from the darker crystal malts. Residual sweetness from the malt counters the hop bitterness. The beer finishes in a lingering mix of caramel and bitterness.
This copper-red ale is mostly about MALT; in addition to our homegrown Overberg barley, we have added specially malted grains from Belgium and Germany. The beer has a rich toffee and caramel flavor with a lasting sweet aftertaste. Hops are added in to create subtle balancing bitterness.
Our flagship beer is based on the American IPA (India Pale Ale) style. We went all the way with this beauty, using the highest quality American hops available. With a strong malt backbone (caramel and biscuit flavours) this IPA is perfectly balanced with hops; we even dry hop it for even more aroma. Aroma profile: Grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passion fruit and lychees.
The American is bold and hoppy.
The Blonde is sweet with a crisp finish.
Speak-easy is based on the American Pale Ale style, but with a South African twist, due to a local hop balanced with an American counterpart. A hoppy beer with earthy, citrus and pine notes; as well as some faint biscuit flavours from the malt.
Sweetlips is a light blonde brewed with two malt varieties. The beer is lightly dry and refreshing with some sweet biscuit malt and subtle fruit flavour. It is very lightly hopped and never bitter. An excellent choice on warm summer days.
The Vampire Porter - The Vampire is a smooth and warming, pitch black take on a porter, enticing even the non-porter drinker to have a pint. Strong flavours of coffee and chocolate makes this rich and pleasurable.
Titan is a single hop, IPA designed to showcase the hop aroma and character of Southern Passion, a locally bred variety of hops that provides bitterness and a wonderful passionfruit aroma. The hop was originally known as US4/78 and hybridized in the Outeniqua Mountains where all our local hops are cultivated. The hop was only ever utilized for bittering and, in 2012; we were the first craft brewery to brew a big IPA with Southern Passion. The golden pour hints at the crystal malts used to impart some sweetness and the 8% ABV makes for a solid malt backbone. This beer will develop with age and is a nice winter warmer but balanced enough to enjoy cold on a summer day.
Tweety Bird Amber Ale - The Tweety Bird is a typically brewed American Amber Ale. Fresh citrus on the nose and palate, backed by a malty body and medium bitterness.
Our winter warmer! Dark as the night, this beer is based on the American Stout style, but enriched by the addition of South African hops. It’s got a massive malt bill to get this beautiful dark colour, accompanied by coffee and chocolate aromas. This beer is not as heavy and strong as the traditional stouts available, leaning more towards the easy-drinking side.
