This is our entry level sessional ale. Specially crafted from our locally sourced Overberg barley, this ale is straw colored, with a malt profile reminiscent of freshly baked bread. The bitterness and aroma are from American hops, grown along the rivers of Oregon State. Enjoy, my friend, and when you are finished, have another!
This ale is mostly about the hops. India Pale Ale was specially brewed in England to be shipped over to those working in India in the 1700’s. Hops (a known preservative) were added in abundance to cover the long sea journey. On top of a substantial malt backbone, we have added a rich mixture of hops from Germany,
the USA and from South Africa.
Our latest beer was created after collaborating with the well known Ramen restaurant, Three Wise Monkeys in 2017. At the time, there was no locally brewed rice beer in the South African craft scene. This is in spite of rice being an ingredient in the world’s most popular beers (not naming any names my bud!). Our main ingredient, pure Overberg spring water, is a given. We have replaced 10% of our malt bill with rice. African Queen is our bittering hop whilst Williamette is our aromatic hop, added late to the boil. The resulting beer is light, dry and very refreshing. But full of flavour! So, go ahead my china, have another!
This thirst quenching, dry ale was made by Belgian farmers during winter. Later on, in the peak of summer, the beer was served to tired and thirsty seasonal “Saison” workers who had been out harvesting all day. Spicy notes with a subtle orange, citrus flavour.
This copper-red ale is mostly about MALT; in addition to our homegrown Overberg barley, we have added specially malted grains from Belgium and Germany. The beer has a rich toffee and caramel flavor with a lasting sweet aftertaste. Hops are added in to create subtle balancing bitterness.
